I tend to not be overly attached to things and not very sentimental when it comes to material objects. However, everything I just said goes straight out the window when it comes to my girls' clothes.
Nothing can turn me into a mushy, blubbering mess faster than sorting through Amelia and Lola's clothes - especially those pieces that I love and therefore put on the girls very often.
These two outfits were in heavy rotation after I bought them for Amelia. I loved them from the moment I bought them and was terribly sad when she couldn't wear them any longer. She got quite a bit of wear out of them because she was a little squirt and therefore wore these size 18-month and 24-month pieces until after she was three.
I can already tell you, as evidenced in the above photos, that Lola will not be wearing these same outfits until after her third birthday, because at 20-months-old she's already filling them out quite well.
Sigh. Every time I put her in something that Amelia wore at a much later age I am reminded how quickly she is growing up, which causes me to reflect on just how quickly Amelia is also growing up - all of which results in me wanting to take to my bed and sob.
It's a vicious cycle and one I try to avoid falling into because it can be hard to pull myself out of it. My usual go-to solution for dealing with things that make me sad is just to avoid them. However, clothing my child cannot be avoided unless I intend to ignore all the clothes I saved from Amelia and buy Lola an entire new wardrobe - something I guarantee will not happen because I am too cheap to ever consider such a thing.
Therefore, I must push forward and continue digging through Amelia's hand-me-downs. I know it's going to be tough, but it's got to be done. Otherwise, Lola will be spending a lot of time in her birthday suit, which would likely be fine with her since she has taken a shine to shedding her clothes; but is not an option I can allow especially when I know how many precious outfits are waiting for her to wear them. Now, someone pass the tissues please.
